How could we be missional? How could we move into the world with the love and the reality of Jesus when everything was shutting down around us? That’s the question a small group of friends was asking as Covid-19 pulled most of the world into isolation.

From September 22nd to 25th, the American Anglican Council (AAC) attended the New Wineskins for Global Mission Conference in Ridgecrest, NC, directed by Jenny Noyes. Some 1,600 Anglicans from around the globe attended this triennial gathering focused on global missions. Included were archbishops, bishops, clergy, lay leaders, and many youth and children. It was a wonderful, Spirit-filled, worshipping reunion of Anglicans on fire for local and global mission.

St. Peter’s sewing school in West Bengal, India is a Covid-19 rehabilitation program for women who have lost their jobs and migrated back home. The program gives women the skill of sewing and enables them to produce cloths that are sold in the local market.

In their first year of planting Rise Church in Portland, the Rev. Dan and Carrie Wolf were asking a simple question, “God, how can we bless and serve our neighbors?” The Wolfs have two young children (Coen, age 4, and Gemma, age 2), and as they met other young families in their neighborhood and at local playgrounds, their hearts were struck by the toll that the pandemic was taking on both parents and children.…

Why do we host these New Wineskins Global Mission Conferences? Fruit from the last conference gives us some insight…

Feeling a tug on our hearts, we began pushing on doors to see if God was calling us to missions. One of the doors we walked through was the New Wineskins conference in Fall 2019. We went seeking to confirm God’s call.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected seemingly the entire world in unprecedented ways. It’s easy to get caught up in how it has impacted our individual lives, or the lives of our families, or the lives of our loved ones. As followers of Jesus, though, we need to always be mindful of our neighbors…

What is it like to return to my passport country? Going out after 14 days of quarantine, it feels like a twilight zone experience.

I have been encouraged by a few friends to share some thoughts on an appropriate Christian response to this current chaotic moment as our global community deals with the coronavirus pandemic.

The extent to which biosecurity events like this current COVID-19 pandemic affect the world, including mission, are yet to be determined. But big changes to ministry are (probably) coming and things may never be the same again. It may leave a lasting impact on various contexts for generations to come.

We live in tumultuous times. But we can take comfort, as do our brothers and sisters in hostile areas and restricted nations, in trusting that our loving heavenly Father holds each of us in the palm of His hand.

As concern over the coronavirus has grown in our adopted country, my husband and I decided to keep our previously-scheduled plans to celebrate our wedding anniversary in a nearby country where our daughter, son-in-law, and 9 month-old grandchild live.…
