International Day of Prayer
for the Persecuted Church
A note from the organizers:
“This is a special day to pray for our brothers and sisters around the world who may be imprisoned, tortured, or even martyred for following Jesus. Every church congregation should observe this day by hosting an event or devoting the Sunday morning service to prayer for the persecuted church. Traditionally this is usually observed on the first Sunday of November,
but it can be moved to a different Sunday as needed.”
Sunday Morning IDOP Impact!
Talk to your pastor about including a special prayer litany for the persecuted church in your regular worship service. See these litanies for ideas or add a bulletin insert that gives information about the persecuted church, for greater impact.
Host a Sunday Evening IDOP Event!
Invite a special speaker who can share about the persecuted church in a particular area of the world. Host a prayer event that includes musical worship and taking an offering for our suffering brothers and sisters in Christ in the area of the speaker’s focus. You can write liturgical prayers to pray for these Christians, or you can create more informal prayer points.
Once option is to also make it a banquet, which will usually attract more people. If you choose to host a banquet, you can make it a ticketed event to raise extra funds for your offering project.
